Maybe. But i think it would be impossible to creat coloured, white-cored blades that cut through things apart from another blade.

Then we should worry about thugs and bad people that will go round with them threatening and killing people.

Unless you just want a flashlight to burn holes through people, you can't make a sword of light because there is no way to stop the light at a certain point.

I read somewhere that you need a very special type of lens to get the beam of light (from a lightsaber) to stop at a specific point.
I don't remember exactly where I found it, but I'm positive that I saw something like that on the Internet.

If you think about it, the plasma sabers that they have on the market now are very much real lightsabers. If they did not have the polycarbonate or plexiglass blades and had a way to contain the plasma without them (elctro-magnet? ) it would be very much real.

this would be cool to have in every household. Instead of picking up the phone you send a 3d video message. If you think about it it really shouldnt be that hard seeing all the advances in video there are.

Plasma can be contained magnetically, but the power source to create the plasma and the electro-magnetic containment would be the size of a house! Not very convenient for your average Jedi-about-town! Plus the heat and light radition it would create would give you an industrial (possibly terminal) case of sunburn. The blades would not cut through each other, though, because being magnetic, the containment fields would repel each other. Like many technical problems today, this one is mostly down to lack of convenient power. By the time some boffin invents a nuclear pile the size of a walnut, lightsabers will be possible for real. I don't think I should be allowed to have one though. I have injured myself enough times with my FX sabers. I am attached to my limbs, and would like to hang on to them!

Maybe the lightsaber blade isn't made of plasma. Maybe it's made from another energy source that we haven't discovered yet. I'm just saying. I might be wrong, so who knows? I did find a fan film on YouTube called "To Know a Jedi"; it's about an individual who attempts to build a real lightsaber. It's pretty good, despite the strong language & other content.
