I think I might be old school but I voted for Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Now that is one F'd up story line. All those Rebels that are slaughtered by AT-ATs and AT-STs. Luke was almost lunch meat for the Wampa. The hyperdrive on the Millenium Falcon doesn't work for like the whole movie. Han and the rest of the gang are being persued by half of the Empire and Darth Vader himself. Bount Hunters are after them. Darth Vader cuts off Luke's right hand and then tells him the he's Luke's dad. (Messed up!!) Lando betrays Han. Han is placed in carbonite freeze and givin to Boba Fett to be given to Jabba.
What a messed up movie. I like it.

A hero fallen, barely a handful of jedi remaining in the galaxy, those that remain forced into exile, no contest....

I saw Episode III. The entire movie, every scene has emotion. Plus, all of the Jedi slaughtered merclessly (except Yoda, Obi-wan, and a few other handful.) Anakin joins the dark side, Padme dies, all those younglings. *cries* There is just too much emotion for it not to be the most tragic.

Episode three almost no question dude. Episode V is kind of tragic, but as I recall Episode V wasn't dripping with emotion like Episode III.

Episode III by far is the most tragic because we, as the audience, know what Anakin's fate, to become Darth Vader, is. We see that Anakin has a dream that Padme dies in birth. We know that Palpatine knows of Anakin's dream and tells him the story of Darth Plagieus and how he could save people from death. We know that Padme really wasn't going to die in child birth, she only dies because Anakin has turnned to the dark side and broken her heart. And the human in us all is screaming:
[glow=yellow,4,500]"NO!!!!! IT'S A TRAP!!!!! SHE ISN'T GOING TO DIE!!!!!"[/glow]
But because it is a storyline and a movie there is nothing that we can do.
Some of the worst moments are right after Order 66 is carried out with Yoda dropping his cane and all and right after Obi Wan cuts off the remaining organic limbs of Anakin and he tells Anakin how he was his brother and how he loved him and then:
"You were the chosen one! It was said you were to destroy the Sith not join them! Bring balance to the force, not leave it in darkness!"
So there it is Episode III is the most tragic!
