The fact that Luke had to use both hands is hardly remarkable...droids can be much stronger than humans, and droid limbs add strength. In the books it clearly states that Vader used the added strength to his advantage in his lightsaber form.

on the topic of the length of lukes formal training i have this to say.
you really have no idea how long it was. all you can guess is that at most it was a matter of several weeks, saying that it was only a week at most by the time he fought vader on bespin is unrealistic. hyperspace travel is not instant. some routes take several days for even the Falcon to traverse. you just dont get a good feel for that time period in the movies because its kinda boring watching a couple of guys sit around a ship waiting to get somewhere.
but yes, it was a MUCH shorter time period that tradional Jedi in any case. but it very well could have added up to a month or so.

He has a point. I mean, just look at Darth Revan after he was reprogrammed with a new identity. Zhar commented that he had accomplished what many could not do in years. Whether or not this is because he already had training before hand and was subconsciously calling upon that training, I do not know. We have no idea how long Luke was on Dagobah, nor do we know how long Leia, Han, and the rest of them were on Bespin. And if you look at wookieepedia, they are always very vague about the length of time any one individual spends in any particular location in terms of days or weeks. Plus, Luke's training was probably put on rush due to time constraints in terms of Yoda's remaining years of life. Luke probably had to go through cramming sessions everyday. Add that possible month with the time period in between V and VI, and you don't know how much training Luke went through before the final battle between the Rebellion and the Empire. Can't think of much else to say, so yeah.

For the most part I have to agree with what my friend states above. But one thing that is shown is more battles against the empire. The jedi where extinquished which made it a little harder for Luke to be trained by a jedi master; seeing as Master Kenobi and Master Yoda where the only surviving members left. Pretty much the rebels where going through enough battles which did give Luke a less of a chance in learning the force more.

I think lucas did the best as he could for the time.you have to undertand that the action scenes were groundbreaking for it's time.imo the originals have no flaws.evrything was portioned out propperly. And lukes hair cut is amazing.

I am afraid I am going to have to agree with Obiwan-Kemal. These movies were made before there was a real fan base that was established for us space nerds to pick on. Effects and ideas were revolutionary at the time if you listen to commentary on DVD's or watch special features.
