burn out the excess flares with the 'burn' tool...keep the main flare if you want it there, though it really obscures the majority of the lightning.

Thats really good bro, not that im speaking from experiance with lightning, but just go ahead and add some more bolts to it man. Personalize it and put them on the fingertips also.
Try not to run it off of the bottom of the pic, and give it that more {reach out and grab you} type feeling, and if you dont like the results, just go ahead and cut it off at the bottom of the pic then, lol. Keep practicing thats what Ive been doing all day, just trying to get a little better with this lightning, ya know

That sux, my Difference Clouds aren't clouding. Every time I go to Render then Difference Clouds all it does is flip the black to the bottom and the white to the top.

Make a new document = make a new picture. as for the gradient, this is a picture of where its located. If the symbol isn't showing, click and hold on the paintbucket and you'll get the option to go to gradient tool.

Thank you kindly.
But now another question.
When adding the lighting to the fingers, do you APPLY each? or keep inserting them?
And once thats done, how do you change the blending?

leave them as is, maybe merge them all onto a single layer.
but to change the blending, where your layers are shown, there's an option to change the layer style. change the one your lightning is on to screen, then erase the edges, colorize, and whatnot.
