In the wake of the commercial success of TFA and the culling of the expanded universe. I have returned here, a place I have called home, for solace.
All continuity in the universe has been broken in favour of a highly derivative mess of a movie. Sorry guys, I did not enjoy it.35,000 years of history destroyed for 50 years of cinema spectacle. I am only now accepting that all the EU stories are dead and buried. It has taken me a while...
I hate to admit it, but I feel lost as a star wars fan. I had supported and loved the universe for such a long time. It formed a large part of my life as the expanded universe taught me how to read, make friends, empathise with people and see the world through the lens of the force. I loved all the books, comics, games and 3D animated cartoons(you accept the good with the bad). But the beautiful and unique thing about star wars, was that continuity was king.
I can't help but feel more and more lost as the rest of the world gets star wars fever. I know it's irrational and stupid, but I continue to feel a remarkable disillusionment with my relationship to the franchise. The actions of Disney are universally praised for 'breathing life' back into the franchise, while all the rights to make games have been sold to the highest bidder and the new books have cool front covers designed to sell copies instead of stories. And while I understand their 'scorched earth' approach to building a new story, the way they went about it has been unapologetically lazy.
I suppose I have returned here to remind myself why I love this universe.
Ha ha! It's almost like i'm walking through the ruins of the library on Ossus. Dust and spider webs cover everything.
But Wait, Fresh tracks in the dust?
A post from Jan...2016?!?!
A place long forgotten, and nostalgia abounds.
I remember this place as the first online community I was ever a part of. I felt at home here. All the way back in the myspace era.
It was where my love for the lightsaber was given means to grow into a hobby. It was a place where fellow star wars nerds could geek out over everything.
I remember the strong role playing community here. And the brotherhood the forum had with the more successful yet now dated fx-sabers.com
Embarrassingly I remember being so Jealous of the folks here posting pictures of their beautiful jedi weapons, while not being able to afford one myself.
I'll apologise in advance if anyone reads this in 2 years time and this post sours your tongue, but I suppose it's best to vent in empty halls. Looks like this thread is a bit of a time capsule, hope all will be well with y'all the next time you log in.
