I was searching the web for info on creating custom sabers (similar to the "Big Yellow Box" site) and I ran across lasersabers. These sabers basically use a white diffuser and 5 mW laser to create the blade effect. They show what you get from a 90 mW, but you need eye protection if you use anything stronger than 5 mW. From what I've seen in the photos, this is pretty cool all the same! Wait, why am I telling you about it? wow they look cool;but,now the question would be how brite would they be with the lights on in a room??

These guys have been around for ages. They have a ball bearing in the blade so that is how you achieve the extend/retract effect. Notice how he only ignites the saber with it pointed down, and when he retracts it, he shakes the hilt a little bit.
