I've heard a lot of changes have been made, and a lot of complaints... Jedi being a starting class being a big one, hunters no longer allowed to hunt jedi...
I've been wanting to get this game for a long while. Is it still worth it, and paying the monthly fee on a tight budget?

It's pretty insane what they're asking for a month to play the game (25 bux).
There are some good and bad things about the game (I've been playing the 10 day free trial). Most of the missions seem repeditive. You do get some decent equipment, even on the lower levels.
I'd like to hear what anyone else has to say on the subject, because I am interested in seeing if it is worth the cost.
Right now, I'd say no...

I played for 2 years just after launch. It was only $15 then. But now that they changed the entire game, nerfed everything that was good about it. Sadly i quit playing about a year ago. SOE really killed it for me and everyone I played with. R.I.P. Xurzonit

I was toying with the idea of buying the game (3 months for free), then see how far I can get my character before they start charging that unreasonable monthly price.
Maybe they'll change their minds and lower the price; that has to hurt their fan base and signups.

For a while there was rumbling about pre CU servers because of the mass exodus of players left after it went live. SOE shot that down. They made it clear, atleast to me, that they are going to do what they want and not what the players want.

Every now and again I wonder what it would be like to start playing again, but four things stop me.
Firstly, I'd built up a Lvl 80 Bounty Hunter, which I am sure I'd have lost by now, cause it must be a year since I last logged on. I don't fancy being a 'noob' all over again in a simplified universe.
Second, from what I've heard about the changes (loss of classes, general dumbing down of the game itself, etc), I'm not sure I want to go back. After so many sessions where I've gone online, met new guys, been on hunts with creature handlers, completing quests and missions, respeccing to different classes and learning their skills, I think it would spoil my good memories of the game. Plus, from what I've heard, the servers must be nigh on deserted these days.
Third, the cost. I hear its now $25.00 a month?!? As far as I remember, it was $15.00, which itself was enough for me (I live in the UK, so that was still approaching £10.00 a month). Given the fact I might give it a try and hate it, I don't fancy wasting that much cash.
Lastly, I think the amount of updates required (given that it almost sounds like a new game), would take far to long to download and install.
I just keep checking up on these posts every now and again, hoping beyond hope that perhaps SOE have seen sense and backtracked to the older game.
A great shame really - a good game ruined by a stubborn refusal by SOE to listen to its' customer base.
But...I'll keep hoping and checking, just in case...

OK its not $25 to play, thats just for SOE station access (being able to play all their games such as everquest 1&2, matrix online &SWG). SWG is still only $15. I still think the game's worth playing. New expertise systems will come into the game soon to make it a bit more diverse and lately there's been great pvp'ing at an event called the battle of restuss (plus it never ends). I'd say its worth picking up!

No, it isn't. Take it from someone who used to love SOE and Star Wars Galaxies to the point of visiting the chatroom daily and flaming those who gave the Customer service representitives (excessive) trouble. I hate the game now, and I hate SOE now. The combat upgrade (which I personally liked) and this change are nothing alike. Considering that they changed the interface, the amount of professions (that part is definitely a downgrade), affected the economy for the worse by getting rid of item decay and making quest items better inherently than craftable items, making no need for crafters and ultimately screwing that profession over, increasing the amount of jedi even more giving the lore the finger and giving away jedi, and countless other atrocities all in the name of making the game more "Starwars-y (tm)". OK its not $25 to play, thats just for SOE station access (being able to play all their games such as everquest 1&2, matrix online &SWG). SWG is still only $15. I still think the game's worth playing. I'd say its worth picking up! While I thank you for clarification on the price (which did sound suspicously misinterpreted), I totally disagree. This new "expertise system" is not only the talent system from WoW, but also it is an insult to the players since these are just skills SOE took away and are sneaking back into the game. So, while SOE may be making small steps to "fix it", it is still a travesty and a mere shell of the game it once was. No, it isn't more starwarsy (tm). Its more SOE-y(tm) (property of corporate theives). Who ever reads this, don't bother, you won't like it. And thousands of others haven't either.

I know where you're coming from. I hate the people of SOE for being either realy stupid or ignorant not to listen to the community. I just want TKA back But their is light at the end of the tunnel! Oh yes! I group of people have developed SWGEmu, which are basically pre-CU servers. They won't be up for a while though and you'll have to start again but it looks good.

It is an online game, though it might as well be single player considering how many people it has lost. Trust me, if you want a good single player Star Wars Game, gor for BattlefrontII or something.
