One of my mates recently told me that modding can REALLY mess up your game. Is this true? I wanna download some mods, but i dont wanna wreck my game, as it is one of my favourite games. Can anyone tell me anymore about this?

The files go into an alternative folder and doesn't overwrite the main game files. If the mod ask you to overwrite files in the main game I'd pass or at least copy the original files into another folder in case you need to put the files back later. Hope this helps!

I've never had a mod mess up a game (and I've downloaded quite a few), but on a rare instance with a poorly crafted mod it could happen. At worst you'd have to reinstall your base game, but as Spacemas said, most don't overwrite core game files.

Cool thanks guys, I was beggining to wonder if anyone was actually going to answer my topic lol. I will try and find a few cool mods.
The mods for Jedi Academy are cool, I have downloaded a few, but I wasnt sure about Empire at War, because one of my mates told me that it can wreck your game. Thanks for responding to my thread.

When I play KOTOR or KOTOR II I have a dozen or more mods sometimes. 90% of the time they will work and everything will be fine. The odd time, one will conflict with another and they will cancel each other out. Not a big deal, just uninstall the trouble maker and keep on.
For the most part they are a ESSENTIAL part of SW gaming as they add so much to the game in terms of replay-ability and added fun.
If a technical idiot like me can add 12 or more of them time and time again and have next to no problems (aside from the odd conflict as I mentioned before) then you should really have no problem at all. ;D
