I was thining about getting a FX saber, but I wanted to know if they lit up like the hasbro sabers? and which saber would be the best to get? I want a Red Saber but if the handles aren't good for duels because they're hard to hold then, I don't know what to do..... what's the best thing I could get/do?

They do indeed light up, and it's a much better effect than the hasbro sabers in my opinion. The current generation of sabers is lit up with a string of 64 LED's, and these produce a scrolling effect (think of when a lightsaber is ignited in the movie, the blade doesn't just instantly form, it travels from the emitter to it's full length). As for dueling, that's a mixed opinion. I myself don't duel with them for fear of popping an LED, and many folks will tell you the same thing. However, on that same token many people say that it's fine as long as you aren't going full force. The best bet for dueling seems to be going with an UltraSaber, as there's no danger of popping an LED with them. As far as the best hilt, that's a matter of taste. The Luke ROTJ is very light weight, making it nice for spins and such. On the other hand I'm told the stock blade on it is not very strong at all (I have one but as I said I don't duel with it). As far as stock dueling sabers, the general consensus usually seems to suggest a single bladed Maul (the blade is supposed to be thicker) or an Obi-Wan ROTS (again a thicker blade I'm told). I hope this helped, if you have any more questions feel free to ask.

That's a great answer Jayman87 and I second it. Based on things I've learned on this board and in my own research he's absolutely right. Plus MR fx sabers come with an advisory not to duel with them. (The only odd thing about that is that they have people from the company who duel with them - I wonder if they have versions that are dueling safe)

MR sabers make hasbro sabers look like a joke. The best for dueling, as you guys have said are ultra sabers, or graflex's made by yoda at fx-sabers. i have a graflex being built and will write a review when it comes in

Get a ESB Vader if you want a Sith blade. Then have it converted to a Ultra saber for the ultimate dualing Sith saber. My advice..

how much do UltraSabers cost? I'll probably get one of those because I want a good saber to train with, the hasbro ones get in the way when I try to use them (my brother has some) so I can't really practice much.
the FXs look good but they're expensive.
the lowest FX saber I found was 99$ at amazon.

Hi Mandalorian!! Welcome to the forum my friend!!To answer your question ; some people send in their fx-sabers to convert to a lux blade for 75.00 + whatever the cost is to ship it to ultra sabers ;Or;You can buy a masterreplicas fx already converted to a lux blade from ultra sabers for 198.00 inc. shipping. I for one bought last year an obi-wan ultra saber with a guardian blue blade and let me tell you I really love it. Not only the saber is brite;but;it's louder too!!I also love the fact that I can detach the blade and wear a real working hilt on my side and to me that's worth the money alone.Anyway good luck on your choice my friend.DaJoQuim

www.ultrasabers.comThere's their URL if you'd like to check them out. Their apprentice kit is $49 dollars, but be advised that saber doesn't make sound and only lights up (at least I don't think the apprentice sabers make sound, someone correct me if I'm wrong).

I think if I was going to duel with it then I would get a Darth Maul. I would duel and save money then send it to Ultra or JSS when the dark areas start showing up.

Thank you for welcoming me. ;D
well, I'm saving toward a car and a PS3 so I don't know how much I can spend.
I'll probably end up getting a ultra saber kit for 50$, but it doesn't make noise right? could I get it installed some how? oh well, if it doesn't make noise that's fine.

Those are the apprentice sabers, and I think the stunt sabers sale for around the same price. You are correct though, they don't make noise. As far as installing a soundboard, I wouldn't know how to do it, but I'm sure a more technical fellow (such as Xwingband) could shed some light on the subject.

also to add to the apprentice saber is that its shorter in length by about 10 inches than a stock MR. I was just at the Phoenix comicon and ultrasabers was there and the apprentice has a much smaller hilt and blade almost the size of the new MR yoda coming out. the stunt sabers are amazing nice but no sound like you said, I would save and get a singel maul and wait till the leds died and get it upgraded. I duel with my anakin luxeon and beat it to death and its still in amazing shape.
