Have Question about Luke ANH and Anakin ROTS

no. the luke is brushed aluminum. the anakin is chrome

There are also a few other minor differences, most notably the Anakin has a gold power-on switch on the side of the activation box, whereas the Luke has the original bubble-strip activation slider. Other details like the wheeled knobs and 'rabbit ears' are also slightly different. I actually prefer the Luke ANH version - it just feels like a more classic design.

There has been some speculation as to why they differ, when in the Star Wars storyline, it's essentially the same saber. My theory is that after the battle on Mustafar, the hilt took quite a hammering. Obi-Wan then took it and made some light repairs and upgrades before passing it on to Luke.

my theory is that the original design of Luke's saber is owned by the Graflex Corporation because its actually a vintage 1930's handle for a camera flash.

George Lucas had tried to sue a company called 'Park Sabers' for selling graflex camera flashes that were converted into EL lightsabers.

George's lawyers claimed that HE owned the trademarked design of the graflex camera flash ; HE LOST!

--> for ROTS Geroge needed a lightsaber design that he could OWN, COPYRIGHT, and LICENSE for his own profit.

--> the original design of luke's lightsaber was changed just enough that it would be considered an original design in court.

--> aluminum became chrome. the overall size was changed, for the sake of change.
(the outer diameter is smaller for anakin)

short answer :

George listened to "The FOrce" (of his lawyers advice) and he stopped using "found parts" to create his movie props; all the lightsabers in the prequel trilogy are based on original designs that are owned exclusively by lucasfilm.

but the lightsabers in the original trilogy are based on vintage designs for old camera parts; george does NOT own the copyrights for the vintage graflex handle that was Luke's Saber. and THAT is why it changed.

P.S. I'm thinking of buying a Luke ANH saber, removing the blade and rubber grips, and converting it to a Graflex flash handle. Then I'm going to attach it to an old camera and take it to my local annual 1930's Journalism Convention, while wearing a suit and a trilby.

its a "functional" replica of the original 1930's graflex camera flash, with all the working parts.
(it actually 'flashes the bulb' on a vintage camera).
reverse-engineered from an original vintage graflex flash-handle, and made in china.
these are brand new working 'copies' of the exact item lucas used to make the prop in 1977.

--> technically these are "camera parts".

they are adorned with grips and calculator bubbles by that company I mentioned above (Park Sabers) and sold under their tradename of graflexsabers.com

this is a GRAFLEX brand camera from the 1930's.

its a replica "Flash Handle" for a 1930's camera, which looks EXACTLY like luke's lightsaber from 1977

but if you hang it on your belt, it looks exactly like a lightsaber handle.

In the story, they are the same saber, but there were an Anakin and Luke version released.

I say, buy the Luke one for a slightly brighter, newer blade but get the Anakin if you want a chrome hilt. Personally, I prefer the Luke.
