I would rate it 7. When I saw it the first time I rated it like around 5 out of 10 and I was really disappointed about it, but I have learned to tolerate it a bit during these years. The con's about TPM are Jake Lloyd as Anakin, J.J.B and pro's John Williams music, Liam Neeson as Qui-Gon Jinn and Darth Maul. Exactly my reaction. One thing that doesn't make sense, thouh is that Anakin made C3P0, yet he looks like other driods of his type, as if industrially manufactured. For example, at the beginning of "A New Hope," there is another, lighter colored droid, identical to C3P0, on board Leia's ship. Another one is seen in ESB, in Cloud City.

sorry but this and ANH was my two worst ranked movies they were all good but i think the fight between Qui-gon Obi-Wan and Maul could have been longer and better than a lucky shot by Obi sry

I liked The Phantom Menace because it is the beginning of the series. I like that it shows how Darth Vader was as a child. I hated the pod races. I loved the Qui-Gon Jinn / Obi-Wan Kenobi / Darth Maul fight. That was truly the highlight of the entire film in my opinion. When you first saw the holograph image of Darth Maul, you knew right away that he was going to be, pardon the term, a bad-ass. And he definitely lived up to my expectations. At first I didn't like the fact that he was killed off so quickly, but it gave way for my favorite Sith lord to be in the next film, Count Dooku. If Maul hadn't died, Dooku never would have been. So in that matter, I am glad that Obi-Wan ran a 187 on Maul. Dooku rules! Er, ruled. That is until he lost his hands and head. LOL further down the road.

I gave it a 7 because I thought the movie was put together well. Darth Maul really added a lot, but Jake Loyd (the person who played young Anakin) did a horrible job, I thought. Jar Jar Binks was funny for the first half of the movie, but soon got annoying, Lol. It's alright though. That crazy gungan! That last battle with Maul - Obi-wan - Qui-gon was exciting. Ending didn't satisfy me, though. But you can't kill off Obi-wan that early, so that's the way it goes.

I vote 8, it has the story of anakin and his destiny, how he was found, freed and why he has anger and fear, but Jar Jar did the film in for me. LOL

Brilliant film, but it was my least favourite out of the 6 films, but it was cool to see where and how the whole saga began. Great film, i just thought the other 5 films were better.

I would rate it a 7. That's because of darth maul. He's the coolest and the badest sith lord that I've ever seen. I think he made the movie!!DaJoQuim

I gave it a 7.
The only part of the movie that I realy enjoy is the dual of the fates.
Jar Jar, just plain annoying, little ani, just pain annoying. But overlooking those two facts I think it was a fairly decent movie.

I usually don't like the first movie to trilogies. Sometimes they tend to be a little slow since they need to get everything started. The pod race was a little long. But overall, it was still a good movie.

I rather liked it myself. I mean it was a bit different than IV through VI, but that was the point wasn't it? I mean with it taking place 30 years earlier, it was a different time and operated under a different set of rules. The Old Republic was still in power, the Jedi kept the peace and did an effective job for the most part... all was good until one pita Sith Lord had to go and ruin the whole gorram shooting match (ok, two actually) I liked Liam Neeson's Qui Gon Jinn, and he quickly became one of my favorite characters, which is good considering how long he was around for.. Ewan was good as Obi Wan too I think... was brash as a younger Obi Wan which makes sense, when your in your 20's you think yourself immortal. Natalie Portman's Padme was an excellent go, and I could see her as having a relation to Leia. (but I'm a fan of hers anyway so.. I suppose I'm a bit jaded there) Jake Lloyd... well I think I've seen more action and acting ability from a fern... ok... ok... he's young yet.. he may improve as he gets older.. but the problem there is.. TPM is already on DVD. Ray Park's Darth Maul was just cool... period... and the dual lightsaber...OMG... that rocked. Yes, I am a fanboy.. but aren't we all... (and fangirls too... ) Ian McDirmaid was creepy as always... and I think has a multiple personality disorder On the whole, it was a worthy prequel

I gave it a 6. Mostly because YODA looks TERRIBLE~~~~~~~~!!!!!!! AND no one has gone in there to fix him yet!!!! Lucas has him look absolutely terrible.. like he is sick and turning slowly into a cartoon. GAHHHHHHHHHHHD the death of Maul was awful. no one can tell Palpatine and Sidious are ONE... no one. I did but that is me going INSIDE the film and not coming out like I always do... anyone I watch it with is like... HUH?? I do love QUI GON to death!!!!!!!!! But I hated obiwan since the trilogy and I hated him even MORE in ep1 he was such an egotist and he seemed racist too!!!!!!! ugh......... The man who played QuiGon said this... I swear...... he said that if EP one is what has happended to movies he wants to Quit acting and he did for about a year. YEP. So that is what an actor actually thought. I actually liked lil anakin...... whats up with that? C3p0 and R2 were GREAT The QUEEN was GREAT Yes.... we could have done Without JAR JAR.. or at least given him SOME TASTE AND CLASS just a BIT.... but no. Its a mixed up movie.. I dont think Lucas knew how to come back into starwars yet. He was trying (((he said))) to make one for KIDS. And he did... it is not that serious... it has no real plot really and everyone dies simply and clean. Its for kids. He made it for kids. To empower them he said. Well okay but after all this time waiting for Anakins story I was miffed. I wanted to get down into the STARWARS thing again!!!!!!!!!! I forgive him though because Darth Maul is HOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT oh god he is hot. lady JADE LIGHT

7.5 out of 10.
The plotline was fantastic, it had so many far reaching consequences that it weaves a GREAT foundation for the tangled web of Palpatine's ambitions. The volume of thought [on Lucas' part as a storyteller] that went into the reasons behind Naboo's invasion was pretty wonderful IMO, proof that screenplays just can't always be handled by a single person: the overall fantastic ideas of the outline just weren't handled as a well in scripting as they could have been.
But of the 3 prequels, Phantom Menace is likely my favorite. It was far from perfect but I've seen it numerous more times than either of the other prequels combined: I love 3 of the movies but there's a luster to TPM for me that I can't really explain too well.

I just want to point out that a lot of people agree it was one of the worst in the trilogy but they still gave it a 7 or 8 (I gave 8). That is pretty amazing when you make 6 movies on the same subject and your "worst" is still rated an 8.
