Alright,
Well here it is, just wanted to make a review of the Obi Wan FX from Hasbro. I also already own an Obi Wan FX from Master Replicas so I minus well do a comparison of the two, since this saber has been a bit modified as been stated here already.
The story, I got the Obi Hasbro as a gift for Christmas from my Sister and I've had the MR Obi Wan converted to Luxeon III from Ultrasabers but I'm only using the MR as a comparison, yes the MR Obi I have has a Green Luxeon so it's not the typical blue that you see with every obi wan. There are some differences that need to be pointed out as I mention I'll get started with the basics I guess.
1. As we all know the hilt if you can see is slightly small by diameter as shown here:
Also the Gold piece has been replaced with a brass piece instead so it doesn't look as shiny. But that's besides the point, both hilts where made differently correct me if I'm wrong, The MR Obi Wan was made with pure Metal/Chrome while the Hasbro version was made with Aluminum instead so it doesn't look all that shiny and kinda dull compared to the MR.
2. Next up we have the Battery Pack, The newer version only uses 3 AAA's compared to the MR Version of 3 AA's. It's the truth about the Diameter being smaller since the MR battery pack will not fit into the Harsbo Obi Wan. It's not that much smaller from the MR but since taken in AAA battery pack and also Aluminum it's a bit lighter than the heavier MR version.
3. From lighting up just on the rumors the MR Obi Wan is slightly brighter than the Harsbo version of the Obi, Many reasons for this states mostly rather on the Battery pack taking AAA's meaning less power or just on the design of the boards, I hope someone on here can explain this to be more certain. In General this is my first Hasbro Saber and I have to say just seeing this thing lit up, I can say that Hasbro did a good just of the LED's none on my are blown out and no blotches got to say I'm impressed with this one.
4. Sound Quality, the Hasbro actually sounds louder than the MR version, indeed with the Aluminum design and the smaller diameter, can say that the sounds is very crisp compared to the MR version with the sound slightly weaker. I'm suspecting that they might be using the Yoda board on this one but can't be sure until I take it apart. The MR version is using the Anakin FX board.
The MR on the left and Hasbro on the right showing that the top ring has a little bit more detail from the Master Replicas compared to the Hasbro.
Final Note:
Well to top it all off in the end, I have to say that I perfer the MR version of the Obi Wan reason why, because it's heavier, using metal/chrome compared to the Aluminum of the Hasbro. But I can't rule out that Hasbro is trying different things and also finding ways to use not saying cheaper metals and parts but to say using more plastic which I really don't like a lot meaning it can break easier if you like dueling with them. Also when comparing the two together saying which one is better everyone has a different opinion, some believe it's better that Hasbro did take over while others think that MR should of just worked out another way to keep the contract and other things. But in the end I can say that I can't wait to see what Hasbro can bring to the FX line but also praying that they don't go out all plastic. Thanks for reading,
