Hey all,
Posting this again because I believe my initial post was lost somehow.
I was showing a friend of mine the Vader and Obi-Wan ANH sabers that I have and of course, he thought that they were AWESOME!
However, he had some really interesting information to relate to me about their details. He's read a lot of fan fiction and told me all about the adjustment knobs for the focus crystal and the power crystal, and how each padawan will model his own lightsaber after his master's.
I'd been somewhat aware of the internal workings of lightsabers through conversation and the Clone Wars DVD's from Tartakovsky studios, but I want to know more.
Especially about the yellow saber that's supposed to be able to cut through other lightsabers.
Also, I recall hearing about one Jedi whose saber had an internal on/off switch that could only be activated by use of the Force.
I'm very interested in educating myself in all this fascinating lore and I was wondering if there's a page on this site or another that has a history of these things that someone could recommend?

We don't have an actual breakdown of the lightsaber here on site, I believe, but this page and its corresponding links do. I too have gathered a lot of information about lightsabers during my time as a fan, and have realized a number of things. First, not all lightsabers are styled after their creator's master's hilt. Its just an affectation. Second, the details about lightsabers are continually being changed. Something that wasn't canon a year ago has been retconned, and something that was canon has been removed from the database entirely. At one time, it was the red blade that had the ability to break through other lightsaber blades, at others it was the yellow. We have seen no evidence of either in any of the movies or canon games, and I'm assuming the only evidence is in the written comics, which - like the details of the lightsaber - are continually being retconned or de-canonized. Truth be told, its a fascinating topic, if you can keep on top of the constant changes.
