What do you guys think would of happened if Ben didn't die in Episode IV? I personally think that everything would be messed up and the Death Star wouldn't of been destroyed.

I think Luke and Ben would have double teamed Vader in ESB and then it would have just turned into an argument..
VADER: Luke I am your father
BEN: No he's not Luke don't listen to him
VADER: Search your feelings you know it to be..
BEN: Don't listen to him Luke
VADER: DON'T YOU EVER INTERUPT ME
BEN: Oh yeah and why not, what are YOU gonna do about it
VADER: I'll show YOU what I'm gonna do about it
BEN: Yea, just like you did on Mustafar...... Ooops
VADER: HAH I TOLD YOU LUKE
BEN: OH F%&K, erm..............
Ben turns around and then runs along the runway and jumps through the window showering glass everywhere and then plummets and slides down the shaft to the bowels of Bespin where he completely misses the ariel thing that Luke later grabs and then plummets to his doom.......
VADER: erhmmm, now, where were we, ah yes..... LUKE I AM YOUR FATHER etc etc

in the original draft of star wars there was only one surviving jedi master not two. but ben was killed off in episode one because alec guiness hated the role and he hated the entire experience of filming in tunisia so he convinced George to kill him off for 'dramatic purpose'. george didn't know if a second movie would ever get made, and it DID add a dramatic impact to the first film, so he listened to alec guiness and killed ben. (every actor loves a death scene). then when a second movie was confirmed, George suddenly needed another jedi master to continue the story --> he created "Yoda" to replace the dramatic purpose of ben kenobi. short answer: if Ben had lived, then Yoda would never have been "written" as a character at all. Ben would have joined the rebel troops as "general kenobi" and sat in the control room with leia and 3po when the death star was being destroyed in ANH. he would have trained luke instead of yoda in ESB. and then either (a) died of "old age" before the battle in ROTJ like Yoda did or (b) joined luke in the confrontation with vader in ESB and gets killed by vader. -==============- p.s: if Yoda is so bad-ass that he can take on the emperor in ROTS, then why didn't he help AT ALL when Luke went to confront vader in ESB? if they had worked together, they could have defeated vader 2-on-1, and then went after the emperor. back in 1980 I always assumed that luke went to go do it alone because Yoda wasn't a "warrior"; the puppet itself didn't seem capable of swing a sword; I couldn't even picture it. but the prequels proved him quite capable. in ROTS he and obiwan divid ethe task and he goes after the emperor while obiwan goes after vader. so why then, looking back at 1980, did Yoda not lift finger-one to help Luke?

I don't know if this is 100% correct but the most logical reason that I can think of is that he was already dying and was much to weak to engage in such physical activity. ~Lord Maul

I know I'm late to this!
I belive Yoda didn't help Luke because of his age. If I remember correctly, he has been a Jedi for about 800 years or so. That's alot of years to be alive. Also, in AOTC's and ROTS Yoda looks tired and old in both fights. I mean, the little guy walks around with a stick. So yeah, I belive his age is what held him back from fighting with Luke. I belive Yoda didn't pass away for the sole purpose of meeting Luke and training him.

I think Ben would have been killed later on. Probably in the Battle of Yavin. Possibly by Vader while running the Death Star Trench, then the story would continue the same with Luke blowing it up.
