Here is a funny question. Where does one suppose the name Wampa came from? I was making many speculations but figured it was time to send this question to the boards.

You what I kinda wonderd that too. Where did they come from? And what is up with the one in empire strikes back? It clubed luke in the head and dragged him into this ice cave. That raises a couple of questions.
Why did it knock him out instead of killing him?
How in the hell did it freeze him to the top of the cave?

It probably knocked him out because it wasnt hungry yet, but as prey is hard to come by in those conditions he thought he would attack him, incapacitate him and then kill him when he was ready to eat. Luke probably tastes better fresh rather than left to freeze lol. I always imagined that he was stuck to the ceiling using the wampa's saliva and water which freezes over. The biggest issue raised here to me is how does luke cut himself free in one swift stroke with his lightsaber without severing his feet/toes lol. - Dark Anakin

Interesting, I wonder if that really is why they are called Wampa's.

Lol I remember A couple years ago, a group of my friends and I did a report for school and my part was about their currency. Being slightly nervous, I had said 'Wampa' instead of 'Wampum' in the title. The people who knew Star Wars all laughed. It was a tragedy.
