Hello everyone.
I wanted some opinions on what your favorite FX hilts are for dueling?
I'm kind of new to the FX scene, and I was wondering which FX would be the easiest to learn on?
I have an Anakin ROTS that I just bought, and I was considering getting an UltraSabers conversion done on it.
My concern is grinding my hands to hamburger on the activator box and the "Graflex" bulb "Clamp" at the emitter shroud, while attempting spins and such.
I've been playing around with my son's Hasbro toy Anakin/Vader color changer, just to get a feel for the hilt, but it feels clumsy due to the extra suff like the clamp and activator box.
I considered an Obi-Wan or a Mace for the following reasons:
The Mace because of it's lack of activator box, and streamlined look. Very clean looking, and no bulk on the saber to get in the way, or at least it appears that way. Any thoughts?
The Obi-Wan seems like it might be a good starter saber because it seems as though the only impedance is the activator box, but is seems to appear closer to the pommel than most of the others, and would not get in the way as much as an Anakin saber.
I like all of the Force FX hils, but I have ALWAYS loved the look of the Graflex based hilt of the Anakin ROTS/Luke ESB.
I know that it's just a matter of preference, but I was wondering what you ladies and gentlemen's opinions on a good starter saber for novice-intermediates?
Thanks!

Mace's activator switch tends to turn on/off when you don't mean it to, and it's heavier than all the others, but is otherwise quite easy on the hands to use.
Obi-Wan's is the best in my opinion. not too much going on with it, not heavy, and it's got enough on the hilt to keep it from flying all over the place.

NEVER duel with a Mace fx. The only FFX that are built tough enough to duel with are,Maul,Obi,Ani and Vader. The Maul is the toughest since the blade is thicker. If you really want to duel with one of the other ffx, have it converted to Lux at ultra sabers.

The luke rotj is the lightest, and easiest to spin, but its not very strong for dueling. You mentioned Graflex up there and Yoda at Fx-sabers.com makes a sick luke anh and esb graflex lux. they are a loy of $ though, and if you want to duel, i would sugjest an anakin, luke rotj, or obi ultrasabers or jss conversion

I'd duel with mine, but I'm not really wishing to break them.
But I also don't have the money to have them convereted, so I'm basically screwed anyways. Oh well.

Welcome to the forums Darth Morbius. If you want to duel safely then you must have your saber converted. The benefits are the blades are removable (means you can where it as a costume prop) and when the blade is damaged from dueling you just replace the blade for cheap. You mentioned the Graflex. Now that's a real lightsaber and a must have for any serious Star Wars collector. Don't know if you've seen it but here's a post on everything you need to know about the Graflex and where to buy one. Hey thanks for the input. That graflex conversion looks SWEEET. I think I'll stick with my Ani, and go with a conversion kit from Ultra though, at least until I can come up with the credits and time to build a true graflex.
Might just enjoy this hobby a bit too much I think!

My favorite hilt would have to be the Vader ESB. I dunno it just feels right when I hold it.

As for the dualing suggestion. If your gonna convert it, a ROTJ Luke.

Hello fellow duelists! I was just reading thru these posts, and I thought I'd share my experiences. I have the stock MR ROTS Mace, and it is TERRIBLE for dueling. The switch is located right at the pivot point for spinning, and you can't even invert it without turning it off. My blade is junk with dark rings all up it from dueling. I'm gonna get it converted just as soon as someone figures out how to get the deep purple glow out of the color discs they use for the purple hue. My brother has a Vader ESB ultrasaber with the color change discs, but I will warn you, they ARE NOT as bright or as vivid as a single color Luxeon, so don't be fooled!! I also have the Anakin ROTS Luxeon in a gorgeous cyan color, and it is definitely one of the best for dueling. I duel with it at least twice a week, so I do have a little experience with the Anakin model. If MR ever decides to release a Darth Sidious FX, I think it will be by far the best for dueling. It is so streamlined and smooth, kinda like the Mace. Let's just hope they put the switch in a better place!!

I agree with crappy Mace dueling critique.
I took my Mace to an anime convention and let somebody look at it. idiot hit a chair with it, not swinging very hard, and scratched the blade up pretty bad in one spot. not a big deal since i never light the thing up..it just sits on the wall.
My last ROTJ luke got broken at a birthday rave i went to, somebody's little brother got ahold of it while i was in the bathroom and hit the floor with it. about 80% of the LED broke loose.
the Vader and the Maul have been the best so far. I've had Vader for about 14 months now and it's still the best lightsaber i have.

WOW... I think I would actually lose my cool if somebody broke my saber! My brother has an Ultrasaber converted Vader ESB, and I love that one. I think I'm gonna invest in a Vader lux, and eventually the Maul lux. Just the thought of a 7 ft saber makes me wanna pull a Spongebob dance!!! Now only if my wife felt the same way.....
