Hi! I'm new to the forums. The reason I'm posting here is that i'm currently working with Erv from PlecterLabs on my very own saber. I contacted him after seeing the link here and I have to say the guy is a complete star! We've discussed the saber, of which I am going to do the construction and finishing, and the parts involved. Erv has been really fast with all of his communications and has offered me a huge amount of assistance in completing the project. I'll have some pictures up here as soon as I get the kit, which should be fairly soon. It's quite an investment for me, I got my Anakin ROTS for a bargain £45 by surprise in Woolworths (high street chain in UK), I instantly became hooked and started planning a Luke ROTJ. Then I came here, saw the Plecter videos and that was that, NOTHING ELSE WOULD DO!! I just had to have one. All in all the custom is going to cost me around the $350 mark, which is a lot of cash but it's soooo gonna be worth it!! Hey welcome to the forums,I think its awesome you found about about Plecterlabs from this post ;D I know what you mean too, when I seen the videos I HAD to have one.. Please post your finished saber here in the forums when you done,we will be looking forward to it. d**n those blaster reflecting and blade holding trigggers are awessome. how much did urs cost, kit? I traded 4 force fx lightsabers for it.So about $400

Thanks for the welcome Kit, glad to hear i'm not the only one (as if!!) who thinks Erv's work is amazing.
I will have pics and a full video review as soon as I get the parts. As i'm going to be doing the finishing myself (Erv is doing some machining for me on the hilt as I have no lathe) there will be plenty of assembly shots to take too.
I'm most looking forward to playing with the setup of the controller, I can't leave anything "stock" i end up modding anything.
I am kinda wishing that I discovered the saber scene a few years back as my dad used to work as a maintenance engineer for a precision engineering company, so I coulda got all sorts of stuff CNC'd for free!! Although I think if that had been the case I would now not have a job as I'd be too busy polishing my collection of 1'000'000 sabers lol.
Looking forward to posting here more often, and i'll try to get a vid of some of my spinning up here. I've trained in a variety of martial arts since the age of 13 (a good 20 years), so as soon as I picked up my saber it's been spinning!!

Hi there ! Hey shinobi, didn't know you got my contact thru force-fx ! Kit, I appologize for not being around quite often, I'm busy like I've never been, I had to take some days off to complete some sabers (yours included) and a bunch of orders. Here are some pics of Kit's saber, from my gallery : The first one displays the craddle with the battery pack and the electronics. Details of the emitter with the aux. button for blaster deflection and blade lockup. Now the button controls both effects, quick pressure does blaster deflecting on release, maintaining the pressure activates the blade lockup effect. Now the crystal focus is also compatible with momentary buttons, the choice is made on the SD card, like all the other parameters ! I haven't pictured the finished saber yet, but now it has the rubber grips and the covertec knob. Erv'

Hi. Ive been looking into the LUXEON Sabers and i will soon attempt to upgrade the luxeons for three CREE LEDs. We use these little baby's at work and 1 is about 3 times the brightness of a LUXEON with less power drain. LUXEONS are not new LEDs anymore We have obtained these direct from CREE for research for our product so i thought id let our R&D guy see what he can do.
Don't know when it will be done as Ive yet to get an ultra saber upgrade kit. But i will be doing it. I do really like the sabers you are creating and I'm only getting an ultra saber cos the upgrade price is low. In an ideal world id like to see the Plecterlabs saber with the CREEs

Which CREE LED model / ref are you refering to ? if it's the Xlamp serie, I'm wondering where you saw that they are 3 times brighter than luxeon ? There is a white version which is the equivalent of the K2, but for the multicolor series, they are far behind (?) Erv'

Yeah, I said it in the other topic but I'm not sure where you get those numbers. Everything published by Cree show them in pretty much the same ballpark.
Unless you literally mean three in there. Some are working on three luxeons (erv included) and of course it's more powerful.

I wanted to share my recent saber work ;D For about a year now, I've designed my version of wireless sound system for sabers, it's called omnisabers(tm). Unlike other systems, my sound module is computing motion detection ON-BOARD, in the saber, resulting a really low gesture-to-sound latency (< 60 ms). In the past, my wireless system was using my duo of luxeon driver + sound module, now I've completely rewritten it for my Crystal Focus Saber Core board. Since the motion is computed on the board, I simply transmit an order to the computer. The wireless transmission adds only 2 or 3 ms. The sounds are played on a computer using a program I wrote, that allows sound bank selection, mixing and levels, and of course soundtrack playback to choreographied fights ! Here is the last saber if this kind I've made : since it for professionnal sword fighter, I've put all the controls and diagnosis LED on the pommel so that the saber is easier to handle. The design is pretty simple, but I had fun machining the emitter. Cyan luxeon III, recharge port and contact key. The red 3mm led is the low power indicator, the blue one the radio link info. A custom made receiver forwards the orders to the computer thru a MIDI cable and interface (really standard, inexpensive and prefered solution for audio professionnal / live performers). The range in open area is > 25 meters. I'll soon post a video of this ! Erv'

SAWHEET!
The colour is beautiful but here is one thing i've come to realize on many of your Sabers. From the grip down, it's basically the same thing with the black leather (is it?) grip and then the covertec wheel.

Simple to make and good for dueling. ;D Hard to argue with that. Kit could have requested something else too.

yep, this is the point. The grip are actually rubber, and nothing is glued : the rubber self "melt" on itself resulting a one piece rubber grip once the reaction is done. Inexpensive, and simple to change. I also have different kinds of grip, such as the classic T-TRACK ones or other stuff made of neoprene foam (soft but pain to glue). This rubber tape is heaven to me, I was looking for something not too bad looking and cheaper than real leather and that I won't have to glue. Erv'

I keep seeing pics of your improved diffusion blades Erv, and they look totally different from anything else that I have seen...I wish I could see one lit up in person, but my Luxeon Luke ROTJ is made to take a stock MR blade... -Kyp

If i remember correctly, as long as you state that you have a saber with a smaller diameter for the blade housing, you can get your blade grinded to spec.
Erv seems like to person who could make that happen, But I would guess you'd have to send your saber to him so he can test his grinding.
