This is my first review ever, I am reviewing the MR Luke 2007. I know it's about 2 years late, but fortunately you can still find them at this point for a decent price, so I figure some of you may have use for my insights.
First the story: I had never even heard of Force FX sabers until late 2006, when the first photos of my Luke ANH were floating about the internet and unfortunately my funds at the time only allowed for one saber and this was it. Now that I have procured more funds I plan to buy more sabers, including sabers from the new Hasbro line and I will review them as they become available to me. Anyways on with the review!
I purchased the saber from Star Wars Attic, and it arrived speedily and very well packaged. The MR box was visually appealing and the saber was well-secured inside its case. First in handling the saber I noticed how well balanced it was, and it was very easy to spin. The detail is striking, the craftsmanship of the blade is excellent. Battery installation is extremely easy, simply unscrew the cap on the bottom of the hilt and a module containing the batteries slides out. It takes three AA's. I've been using Energizer Max AA's and they produce a very bright crisp blade. The first time I ignited the saber was quite a rush. With a loud SNAP-HISS, the light climbs rapidly up the blade. The brightness and evenness of the blade is quite astounding and in complete darkness the blade is even bright enough to hurt your eyes, if you take about 30 seconds to let your eyes adjust to the dark.
Operation of the saber is easy and comfortable. As others have described the activation switch is big and low on the hilt, making activation of the saber with one hand difficult unless you grip the saber much lower than you normally would. This not a big deal for me though, as if I want to activate the saber one-handed I simply use the non-dominant hand that would normally grip the saber lower on the hilt. The saber is also very hard to activate/deactivate accidentally. My saber has performed flawlessly since I got it. I rarely duel with it and even if I do it is light dueling, but nonetheless it feels extremely solid and well built.
I have dropped it severely once. I was outside at night and being the young padawan I was I slipped up and the saber fell on the bottom of its hilt. The damage might even be visible in the photos, but it was not severe. A very small portion of the metal at the bottom of the hilt was damaged, and one of the rubber grips on the lower half was scraped slightly. It's not real noticeable, but I recommend caution as it would seem that a fall from normal carrying height may damage the finish of the hilt. All in all I have no complaints about the saber. Luke's ANH is very close to the movie as far as I can tell, the detail is very nice. Bottom line: it's loud, bright, and extremely cool! Hope you enjoyed my review, and if you have any questions please ask, I've owned this saber for nearly 2 years so I am very familiar with it.
