Shouldn't Obi-Wan's lightsaber be steaming from the rain hitting it on Kamino? I think it should be, seeing that the lightsaber blade is made of plasma, which should be REALLY hot. I'm thinking about adding that steam effect to some photos, but I wanted some input from others before I went ahead with it... Thanks!

I would say definately. If Qui-gon's could melt steel doors then when its raining on Kamino then steam should be produced when the rain hits the blade. Obviously Lucas didn't think about it or he would've had them cgi it in.

George seems to overlook things like this a lot, maybe its because he is so pressured to do the movie so fast. I cant help but wonder how good the films would be if they would have just left him to it and given him as much time as he needed to get them perfect.

I think it should have a little. When you watch te clone wars, the cartoon series, the lightsabers steamedthere and GL agreed to that, so you would think that would happen. Not sure why it didn't

Yep. The lightsabers of Asajj Ventress and Anakin do steam during the rain in the clone wars. And I thought it was a very cool effect. They probably should've done it in the movie but, oh well. Most viewers probably didn't notice it during the battle between Obi wan and Jango, for it was a great scene nonetheless.

Thanks for all the replies...I didn't know the Clone Wars had addressed this issue.
Sticking with the same theme, how about in cold temps, like on Hoth? Wouldn't they steam there as well?

Actually, the rain would never reach the lighsaber's blade. Because, if the blade is really hot and is made of plasma, when the rains goes near the blade, it would evaporate from the immense heat. So there would be no steam because the rain wouldn't reach the blade to make it steam.

So there would be no steam because the rain wouldn't reach the blade to make it steam. However, the blades aren't hot. In effect, they don't give off any energy whatsoever except when they contact something, as in the case of rain. As for Hoth, I'd say that they'd steam if they came into contact with ice or snow or something, not so much simple cold air.

just remember that the blades wherent designed to be in water and would actually short out if in contact with water... however george said that the blades used in episode 2 and through the clone wars were of special design that could make contact with the blade and have no ill effects.

My thoughts lead me to believe this.
I do not think a light saber would show a steam. Nor would rain cause it to short out. My reasoning brings me back to working neat a 4,000+ degree plasma cutter a long time ago. It was basically a controlled beam of energy. The heat was so intense that water would not sizzle or steam. It evaporated before it could reach the heat.
I think a light saber would work in the same respect.

George seems to overlook things like this a lot Indeed, and it started with A New Hope. In the cantina scene, after Obi-Wan slices Ponda Baba's arm off, it shows the arm on the floor, bleeding. That doesn't make sense, as I'm sure most of us know that lightsabers simply burn and cauterize the flesh they cut, making bleeding impossible. And in Empire, during the duel between Luke and Vader, Luke strikes Vader's right shoulder, yet it leaves no damage to Vader's pauldron. Only a few sparks fly off. Vader even groans when the blade hits. A mystery. But at least Luke's arm doesn't bleed when his hand is severed. In Jedi, Luke's lightsaber leaves no visible wounds whatsoever when he attacks Jabba's guards. A "cutting" sound is still heard when the guards are struck, though. In Menace they got it right for the most part, except during the duel between Obi-Wan and Maul, a "cloud" of blood spatter slightly mists up the screen when Maul is cleaved in half. A mistake by the visual effects department, it seems. The lack of steam from Kenobi's saber in Clones is probably just an oversight.

I don't get it. Obi-Wan's saber doesn't steam. Yet on Clone Wars Vol 1 when Anakin battles Asajj Ventress on Yavin 4, his blade begins to steam when it rains.

Perhaps an feasible explanation could come from the fact that the rain wasn't as severe on Kamino as it was on Yavin IV?
Hard to say, but surely one would hope that there must be a good reason for this as opposed to a simple aspect merely being overlooked.

Just another typical flaw in the making of Star Wars. I personally think it would produce steam also. Remember on the vid "Wieber vs Dorkman 2? when Ryan put the tip of the blade in water? it steamed. In other words, sabers do steam when contacting water.

Gengar, your RVD2 example is pretty much worthless...it isn't canon...
Anyways, I think it was just artistic license in Clone Wars.
