Ok, so the emperor must've been a bit confused.
When Luke is taken to the emperor, the emperor mentions something about Lukes' lightsaber resembling his fathers'. My problem with this, is that Lukes' lightsaber looks NOTHING like his fathers'. If anything, it looks a lot like Obi-Wans' lightsaber. So is Palpatine retarded, or just mistaken, "about a great many things" perhaps?

I think Palpatine is just referring to the fact that Luke has a lightsaber. At this point in time, Luke and Vader are really the only two characters who still have lightsabers. If Palpatine has one, he never uses it past Episode 3 according to the films, and Obi-Wan was killed in Episode 4. I agree, Luke's saber resembles Obi-Wan Kenobi's. It looks nothing like Darth Vader's lightsaber. That, or (LOL) maybe the dark side of the force had actually made Palpatine a bit retarded. LOL!

The lightsaber reference was just a metaphor. What the emperor was really doing was playing mind games with Luke. By saying his saber resembled Vader's he was really saying Luke was turning to the dark side. The comment actually had nothing to do with lightsabers.

I'm sorry but I don't see the significance of this question at all.

And you must admit that Palpatine's method was affective, though ultimately unsuccessful.

I agree the emperror was playing on luke's anger. Not so much the look of it but a Jedi's lightsaber. Its hard to read Sidious's statements,H always emblelishes in half-truths.There are too many to count esspecially the prequels.I also think the original trilogy didn't have everything nailed down.I almost wonder if the emperor even had a lightsaber.I have a friend that read the book before the prequels. He said that Sidious used Anakins lightsaber originally. He said Anakin throws it to him.But the story was changed. So they could have changed it,You never know

I kind of like the fact that the original trilogy didn't have everything nailed down.It made the SW universe kind of mysterious and mystical.
As far as the emperor not having a lightsaber in EpVI,I think that by then he would be so powerful he wouldn't need one. Also,as far as he knew the only people who believed and used the Force were him and Vader, and Vader was completely under his control so,there was no one left to threaten the Sith.

Exacly when would Sidious ever need his lightsaber. Even if he did have one there was no need to pull it out cause Vader would protect him, which was a good thing, because as long as Anakin was using anger, Sidious controlled him. As for the original question. I thought the emperor was refering to the fact that it was a Jedi weapon like his fathers but used for evil, in a way saying the Luke will use his for evil as well.

That was ignorance on the part of the Emperor I think.
